What follows is the letter I just emailed to our current governor, Brad Little, not so fondly referred to by some as Governor Chicken Little:
“Like many citizens of Idaho, mostly liberals such as myself, we are continuously bewildered at your inability to lead, most recently regarding Covid-19 decisions. I realize that may sound harsh, but I can’t think of any way to be less so. Just as others have said before me in newsprint and elsewhere, you have put our lives in direct danger by avoiding the truth and taking the coward’s exit. You must know, or certainly should know, that you are as wrong as the deranged alleged majority in this state. You are deferring to their wishes which are totally self-directed and misguided, and not in the least mandated by the U.S. or Idaho constitutions. No democracy or aspiring democracy would condone decisions that defy the common good for the greed of the individual, especially if it could result in death to the innocent.
Idaho has become an embarrassment to those of us who think and who believe in the truth and doing the right thing. Many of us had delusions when you were elected that you would not be a carbon copy of the drugstore cowboy, Butch Otter, that you followed. Well, I for one, didn’t realize we had it so good with Butch. At least Butch had vestiges of cajones.
If you are going to answer this admittedly strongly worded statement, don’t do me the disservice of groping for a rationalization for your behavior because you and I both know, there isn’t one. Certainly not a valid and genuinely honest one.”
