The Sky is Falling

After some soul searching and admonishment by a loved one, I revised my brief essay about our Idaho Governor, Brad Little, and his weak or nonexistent Covid-19 policies. This letter, soon to be submitted to the Idaho Statesman is a model of diplomatic literacha, has to be 200 words or less, which should be an incentive for slow or unmotivated readers.

“Governor Little and his misguided constituency are bringing some unwanted attention to our state, which have been putting lives in direct danger. I assume that the Governor’s motive in ignoring federal Covid-19 recommendations is to avoid unpopularity with his philistine base. If it’s about getting re-elected, what happens if his constituency are decessed in 2022?  No aspiring democracy would advocate decisions that support individual greed, especially if it results in innocent death.

Idaho and Little’s policies, or lack of, have become an international embarrassment. Jack Nicholson famously said in the courtroom to Tom Cruise, in A Few Good Men, “You can’t handle the truth.” I believe that isn’t the case with our governor. I believe he knows the truth and can handle it. His Idaho ranching background need not be wasted on a twisted a segment of society who are clueless when it comes to understanding and accepting rules that need to be applied and followed for a democracy to be successful. His militant base wants the Wild West back but had Governor Little’s grandfather been in a showdown with Matt Dillon on the streets of Dodge City, the governor probably wouldn’t be here. Unless, Matt is a myth. Never! “
